What is hospital pharmacy software?

Hospital pharmacy software runs the medicine cycle inside a hospital or clinic: purchasing new stock, dispensing and billing it to the patient, and reordering it before it runs out. SoftClinic PMS covers that whole cycle in one system — new medicine purchase through to customer billing, with reordering driven by a minimum stock report and expiry alerts, and all of it held in centralised storage rather than in separate registers.

How does it manage pharmacy inventory and expiry dates?

Two alerts do the work: a minimum stock alert when an item drops below its reorder level, and an expiry date alert before stock becomes unusable. The minimum stock report is what the reorder is raised from, so restocking follows what has actually been dispensed. A barcode reader can be integrated so items are recorded by scan instead of typed in.

Is the pharmacy separate from the patient record?

No. Pharmacy is one of the SoftClinic GenX modules, alongside laboratory and radiology, insurance claim management, human resources and advance accounting. That means a prescription written in the consulting room and the stock it draws down sit in the same system, instead of being re-entered into a standalone pharmacy package. Does it suit a clinic pharmacy as well as a hospital pharmacy?

What reporting does the pharmacy module give?

It provides prompt reports on demand and analysis of the pharmacy business, so purchasing and pricing decisions are made from what the pharmacy actually turned over rather than from a manual stock count.

Do pharmacy staff need special training to use it?

No professional or technical skill is required — the interface is designed to be used by regular pharmacy staff. That matters most at the counter, where dispensing and billing happen under time pressure.
